Boy Scouts with Pioneer Circumnavigation Airmen (1924)
This photo was selected from our archive thanks to its professional depiction of this important piece of aviation history. Early representatives of the Boy Scouts stand with members of the Douglas World Cruiser crew: the first individuals to circumnavigate the world in a single flight. We appreciate that the print renders these pioneers' faces with great clarity, as well as a portion of the distinctive "Air Service U.S.A. World Flight" insignia of the plane.
Standing - Boy Scouts (l to r) John Itavison, Howard McFarland, Chester Walz, Dr. Howards Dabbs (Scout Leader), Vantuyl Harrington, Richard Walz, Gaillard Thomas. Crouching: L.t.s Lowell Smith, Leslie Arnold, Erik Nelson, Leigh Wade, John Harding, H. H. Ogden.
Print is in good condition, with edge wear and editorial marks, and had been mounted to cardboard.
