Lusitania 20th Anniversary Collection (6 vintage prints) (1935)
An excellent collection of six vintage prints used to create a 1935 newspaper article remembering the sinking of the S. S. Lusitania by a German submarine, the event that brought the United States into WWI. Included is a clipping of part of the article, which describes the prints in the photo series. Unfortunately prints 5 and 6 are missing.
Included are:
1) J-20, the German U-Bot that fired upon the Lusitania.
2) Captain Schweker, the J-20's commander.
3) The last picture taken of the Lusitania at sea.
4) An artist's conception of the Lusitania's sinking.
5-6) [missing]
7) A notice published in American papers warning of the danger posed by the European war to American travelers.
8) Alfred Gwynne Vanderbile, a prominent American who perished with the ship.
Prints are relatively small, in the 3x4" range, and are in excellent condition for their age, though some have been, taped/adhered together. The newspaper clipping measured 8x10.,5" and is in fair condition for its age, with some small tears.
