Our Lady of Angels School Fire Funeral (1958) (oversize)
Our Lady of Angels School Fire Funeral (1958) (oversize)
A beautifully made vintage print of the group funeral held for twenty-seven of the eighty-seven victims of the Our Lady of the Angels school fire in Chicago, IL on December 1, 1958. The funeral was held in the Chicago's Northwest Armory on December 5, 1958.
You can tell the print was taken and printed professionally: there is some motion blur from a long exposure, a concession the photographer made to increase the focal range of the picture, so all the mourners and stage is in quite crisp focus for such a large subject area.
This is a very unique piece of history, coming from the Chicago Sun-Times archive, this is likely one of only a handful of pictorial records of the event, let alone in its oversize (10x12") format.
Print is in ok condition, with a 3/4" tear at top, and a visible crease along the bottom centimeter of the printed area. Bears some editorial markings to increase contrast.
