A vintage press photograph of the Tent City (Freedom Village) in Fayette County, Tennessee. Taken at a point when then impromptu village set up on Shepard Towles' land comprised nine families, would later grow to most of the estimated 345 displaced families.
These families were largely forced out of their original homes for participating in activities safeguarded by the Civil Rights act of 1967, but were nevertheless harassed by local whites. The crisis lasted for around two years, partially ending as RFK ordered the Justice Department to investigate Civil Rights violations in Fayette County.
Print is on 8x10" paper an in excellent condition, outside of minor edge wear only affecting white border.
